Shoot One

For my first shoot, I decided to stay in the studio and take images of models without the powder paint. I did the shoot like this because I wanted to focus on getting close-ups, rather than the use of vibrant colours. For this shoot, I decided to focus on the eyes but there is an image of one of the model's tattoos because it's a feature that stands out. It took me a while to get the exposure correct and to arrange the lights in a way to get the most detail in the eyes. Even though I was able to take close-up images, I will be cropping the images and enhancing them slightly using PhotoShop to bring out the detail and the different colours in the eyes. If any of the models ask me to remove any flaws on their skin then I will use PhotoShop to edit them out. I think this shoot was rather successful because I was able to test out different settings and the images are well focused. My next shoot will be with the powder paints so I will have to make sure that I tidy up afterwards because it will get slightly messy. I plan on doing my next shoot on Friday because that's when all of my models are free, however it is forecast rain on that day so I will need to find a place inside to do this shoot. I'm hoping to have access to the theatre for the next shoot because it is inside and there is a choice of large backdrops so it will help the colours stand out more when I take images of their body parts.

Edits

I decided to pick a few images to edit on PhotoShop, this included cropping, adjusting the brightness and contrast, removing any flaws, and using the curves adjustment to bring out the colours more. 

For this image, I decided to do a tight crop around the tattoo so there wasn't too much unneeded space and so the main focus is the tattoo. I didn't adjust the brightness and colours too much because I felt as though the image looks great as it is. I used the healing tool to erase any dark hairs that stood out to.

 I didn't do much to edit this image on PhotoShop. I decided to simply change the brightness to brighten the skin tone slightly.

 This image is completely unedited, this is only cropped. I think this image is brilliant because of the clear detail in her eye and how there isn't anything to distract the viewer's eyes from the main subject.














I cropped this image tightly to keep the same pattern of the other crops. This image required some editing because the model asked me to reduce the black bags under his eyes. I thought his eyes were slightly under-exposed so I decided to chance the brightness of his eye slightly which enhanced the colour and detail. I think I could improve this by using a different light because you can see the reflection of the beauty dish.










Again, I cropped the image tightly around his eye. I decided to use the spot healing tool to clear the visible spots on this model's face. I also selected his eye and changed the brightness by +10 so the detail in his eye is more visible. I think this could be improved if his hair was not in front of his face because it creates a shadow over his eye.

Project Plan

For this project, I plan to challenge the perspectives of portraiture by adding vibrant colours and taking close-up images of body features/parts. To add the vibrant colours, I plan on using powder paints on the models to add bright colours to the image and make the images stand out; however, instead of taking the traditional portraits, I will be taking close-up shots and action shots of the models. The close-up shots will be focusing on the model's facial features such as their eyes and their lips but also body parts such as their hands. The action shots will be taken when the models are throwing the powder paints at each other and I will experiment with different shutter speeds. I plan on doing my shoot on the sand dunes in St. Annes because the powder will either get blown away by the wind or get mixed into the sand, this will make the cleaning up process much easier.

I would like to have a few final images and I will present the images either in A3 frames or on a slideshow.
